Elektrische Lüfter XJ 40 Bj 94

Hallo liebe Jaguar-Freunde,

Frage: I don't know if it's normal, but when i turn on the starter (or the engine), the engine fans starts even when the engine is cold.

Antwort: Your car is normal. The cars originally came with two ac pressure switches, one turned on the low speed fans and the other turned on the high speed ones when the pressure got even higher due to higher ac cooling loads. What was happening was that the higher pressure switch would sometimes activate before the low pressure one and turn the fans on high without them ever being on low first, which overloaded the fuse of the circuit.. Jaguar issued a TSB, to eliminate the low pressure switch and jumper its harness to keep the fans on low all the time.

Das habe ich auch noch gefunden:

Your car might have the factory or dealer mod to counter the problem of fans not cutting in as mentioned by others. Look at the wiring just inboard of the brake servo on the rhs of the car near the bulkhead if you see a black connector with a white one alongside I think this means your car has the mod. The white connector is a bridge to make both fans run all the time if you have this and have proved the fan is ok then check the things others have suggested. On mine I've disconnected the white connector and the lower fan only kicks in when hot and/or aircon is running and the upper follows when hotter.

...und das:

Fans should be running all the time:
An official modification was to permanently connect together the wires that originally went to the single-pressure switch (which was mounted on the a/c pipes next to the offside bulkhead). This is the bullet connector in the second photo and means that the radiator fans should run at low speed all the time the ignition is on in order to keep the air conditioning radiator (in front of the car radiator) cool. If the radiator temperature exceeds 100°C then both fans should run at full speed.
For slow speed running, the relay connects the two fans in series so that each fan runs on 6V and therefore runs more slowly. If one fan is open-circuit or has a broken connection, then neither fan will run when connected in series for slow-speed running. So if fans are not running at low speed when they should be, check that BOTH fans run at high speed.
